featured This past weekend the ZIS Lions’ Varsity Rugby side faced the first two opponents of the fall season. ISZL and Lausanne Rugby Club travelled to Zurich on Friday and Sunday.   The team opened with two of the toughest opponents of the season, and, with few starters to begin Friday’s match, they knew they were in for a challenge. Captain Alex Burnham (‘16) led the charge against Zug but was unfortunately sidelined with an ankle injury in the first half. The Lions kept the familiarly strong ISZL squad in check for most of the match, conceding only two breakaway tries and a penalty for a final score of 0-15.   On Sunday, facing injuries and short numbers, the Varsity squad faced off against Lausanne’s U21 side. The team was able to bring back a few ZIS alumni, Adam Johnson (‘15), Markus Schulze (‘14), and Carl Schulze (‘14), to face the older opposition but found it difficult to compete against the more powerful Lausanne side.
