Lions Have an Unsurprisingly Strong Performance in Lugano

Over forty members of the Middle and High School Cross Country teams traveled to TASIS (The American School in Switzerland) in Lugano on Friday to compete in a friendly race involving ISB (International School of Basel), ICS (Inter-Community School of Zurich), and NJC (Neuch√Ętel Junior College).

The Lions, after a long train ride and team restaurant dinner the evening before, warmed up on Saturday morning feeling ready to race.

After the Middle School 2.5km race, the high school boys and girls toed the line. Despite a false start from some Zurich runners, the Lions dominated their 4.9km race. In the boys’ race, Flint Craig (’19), Martin Kessler (’17) and Robin Blackwell (’17) finished third, fifth and seventh respectively.

The girls also performed well, with Caitlin Fowlds (’17), Julia Jeker (’18), Isabel Mullens (’19), Annabel Jones (’18), Isabel Lane (’17) and Sophia Velicer (’16) coming first, second, fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh respectively.

Although the informality of the race meant that there was no school ranking, Zurich runners were prominent in the individual places.

With only one race left in the season, the team is now preparing for ISSTs (International School Sports Tournament), which will be held at Zurich’s home turf.
