This weekend the JV boys football team flew to Vienna to compete in the annual Sports Community of International Schools (SCIS) tournament.
In the first game against ISB (International School of Basel), Zurich started strong winning 2:1 with both goals scored by Sam Reza (‘19), and only conceding one goal due to sloppy defending. In the next game they played the physical team of FIS (Frankfurt International School), starting with a lead through Dominik Nagel (‘18) by putting one into the net with header; however, the game ended with a disappointing 2:1 loss.
The final game in the group stages against MIS (Munich International School) was a nerve-racking game that began with an early goal for Munich. Fortunately Zurich scored in the last seconds of the game with a great header by Rayan Singh (‘19), putting them through to the semi-finals.
The semi-finals were played against the hosting school VIS (Vienna International School). Unfortunately, the result ended in a 1:0 loss, leaving Zurich to fight for third place. The third place game was played against LCG (La Châtaigneraie Geneva) where Zurich tied 2-2, the goals scored by Cornelius Carlsson (‘17) and Dominik Nagel (‘18). Zurich then went to penalties where they won after scoring all of their penalties and a brilliant save by Kipras Undzenas (‘18).
Zurich placed third once again, and are hoping to improve in next year’s tournament.
