On Sunday, the ZIS Cross Country Ski team headed to Rothenthurm to take part in their first race of the season.
Seven skiers challenged themselves to ski the 22.5 km Volksskilauf, racing with some of Switzerland’s top World Cup skiers. Dan Millar (’16) set the fastest time for the ZIS skiers, at 1:09.40. Isabel Lane (’17) finished sixth in her category, with the second fastest time for ZIS, and Aaron Beaudin (’18) just behind her.
Nicolas Mile (’17), Pierre Ledan (’17), David Bensason (’17) and Zita Baronnet (’17) also completed the 22.5 km, which for some was the longest race they had ever skied. All of the skiers navigated icy conditions to finish strong.
Oliver Hinebauch (’19) participated in the 4.5 km Jugendskilauf, racing against some tough competition and finishing seventh in his category.
The athletes were very grateful to be hosted by the Velicer family after the race for some well-deserved hot chocolate!
The team looks forward to racing again on February 6th, and to teaching some lessons at the “Learn to Ski Day” on February 7th.
